Gianni Versace, born in Reggio Calabria in 1946, was the master of fashion staging and was also named the master of neo-baroque for his opulent creations. The designer's life was as spectacular as his label. In his early years, Versace studied architecture and trained in his mother's tailoring business, where he discovered his talent for fashion. He worked as a fabric buyer and freelance designer for major Italian fashion manufacturers before founding his own label in Italy in 1978. Opulent gowns, vibrant colours, lavish patterns and a close affinity with art made him a starter and perennial favourite. Versace incorporates artistic styles from all directions and makes the collections unmistakable. In the 80s, he brought his sister Donatella into the company.
